1982: Lee Quiñones

Along with Jean-Michel Basquiat, Lee Quiñones' work is an amalgam of early hip hop/break beat of the 1970s and New York street art and graffiti. Both artists make cameo appearances in the music video for Blondie's Rapture. Basquiat and Quiñones were both born in 1960, on the cusp between the Boomer generation and Gen-X, and perhaps suffuse a Pop Art or even Ab Ex sensibility to the work.

The background of Quiñones' "Herman Kelly" piece almost resembles Morris Louis' Tet (1958), with a poured/stained surface.
