1970: Doom Watch

As if to signal that the new decade would force these environmental monsters into our everyday lives, the BBC launched a television series in February 1970 called Doomwatch, about a governmental department whose brief was nothing less than the preservation of mankind against overwhelming natural (and extraterrestrial) threats.
