1964: Richard Hamilton, Interiors

Richard Hamilton is known do be one of the early progenitors of the pop art movement, and a very strong connection point for a whole series of generations of artists, from the G.I. Generation to the present.

The Interiors collages are based on a still from the 1949 film "Shockproof" that Hamilton purportely found at random.


















Here we have a connection point at several levels: Hamilton a G.I.having a memory as a young adult of the film, re-discovering it later on, and making an art piece based on it. This is very similar to the process that Roy Lichtenstein was using with clip art taken from the Yellow Pages. [more...]
