2012: K-Pop and Gangnam Style
K-Pop began in the early 1990s, then became more popular on the Internet in the late 1990s. The advent of video streaming in approximately 2005, with YouTube and other video sites amplified its popularity, culminating in Gangnam Style (now with over a billion views). Technology is frequently the vector for the spread of culture. In the 1960s trans-Atlantic air travel allowed British bands to tour the U.S., and now the Internet has made other pop variants possible from other parts of the world.
