1980: Charles Amirkhanian interview with Brian Eno
The unedited program includes breaking news about a verdict in the Ford Pinto trial and the Iran hostage crisis. Jimmy Carter was still in office. (David Byrne joins the interview at 45:00 to talk about the Bush of Ghosts album.)
Eno's production techniques are very much a continuation of the minimalist tradition, which at this time was transitioning to a resurgence of painting in the post-modernist/neo-expressionist era. In music, the big thing beginning in about 1980 was the influence of African music, particularly with King Crimson's Discipline album (1981).

In June 1980, Jean-Michel Basquiat participated in The Times Square Show, a multi-artist exhibition, marking the beginning of the neo-expressionist movement. In some respects. Basquiat's work, while not "African", had primitive aspects, as did Eno/Byrne's Bush of Ghosts.
