1964: Warhol Brillo Boxes Exhibition

Arthur Danto, the late philosopher and art critic, was of the opinion that Andy Warhol was one of the major iconic artists in the history of modern art in the 20th Century (along with Marcel Duchamp) specifically for his work in 1964, which included the Brillo boxes exhibition at the Stable Gallery in New York. 1964 marks the very beginning of the second turning, and sets the stage for how the art world will evolve going forward.

"[there are] two major artists who to my mind, made the greatest contribution to the issue [of what art is]--Marcel Duchamp in 1915 and Andy Warhol in 1964." (What Art Is, Arthur Danto, p. 23)
