1977: "Pictures" Exhibition

The "Pictures" exhibition takes place at the New York venue Artists Space, featuring works by Robert Longo, Jack Goldstein, Sherrie Levine, and Troy Brauntuch. This exhibition was an attempt to demarcate a new milestone in contemporary art, using more clearly representational imagery, departing from Minimal and Conceptual Art of the 1960s and early 1970s. The coterie of artists who came to be known as the "Pictures Generation" included Richard Prince, Cindy Sherman and David Salle, among others.
