1964: Michael Snow: New York Eye and Ear Control

Michael Snow is known primarily for his work as a filmmaker and visual artist, but he is also a musician, and was involved in the free jazz movement. The sometimes abrasive quality of avant-garde jazz was in stark contrast to the pop music by The Beatles, and was rather an extension of the 1950s jazz scene. (First Turning)

Snow is one of the prime connectors between the art and music worlds, practicing in each domain with similar intensity. 1964 is a bridge between the established styles in American art and music (Abstract Expressionism and Bebop for example) and from First to Second Turning.
